From an idea to working software

An AI coding agent can write code for you. You still need to explain what the software should do, decide what belongs in the first version, and check that it works.

This course takes you through those decisions on your own project. You'll write a brief, review a plan, guide the implementation, fix problems, and prepare a release.

Bring a small project you want to finish. We'll use it to learn how to plan, build, test, and release software with an AI coding agent.

No professional software-development experience is required. You do need to be comfortable using a computer, willing to learn technical concepts, and ready to bring a small, realistically scoped idea, feature, or problem.

How the two weeks run

Before

Project intake & scope check

You submit your project idea, who it's for, what "done" looks like, your tools, and any constraints. Sean reviews every submission so the cohort starts with workable projects.
Week 1

Workshops 1 & 2 (Mon Aug 3 & Thu Aug 6) + optional clinic (Wed Aug 5)

Write your task brief, get your plan reviewed, and build your project with an agent between sessions.
Week 2

Workshop 3 (Wed Aug 12) + optional clinic (Mon Aug 10)

Verify, test, and ship your first version by Friday Aug 14. Leave with a verified release and your personal playbook.

The live curriculum

Session 1

Designing work for agents

Choose a task you can finish during the cohort. Write a specification with the context an agent needs and clear checks for completion. Learn when to explore an idea, when to plan, and how to review the plan before asking the agent to write code.

You produce: an agent-ready task brief and a reviewed implementation plan.

Session 2

Directing implementation

Give an agent a task and review its progress. Learn to spot misunderstandings, correct mistakes, and decide when to step in yourself. Keep context available during longer tasks and use multiple agents for tasks they can handle independently.

You produce: a working implementation and a short record of key decisions, failures, and corrections.

Session 3

Verification and shipping

Review the agent's changes and test the software's behavior. Check that fixes solve the problem and leave existing features working. Use AI to help with review, learn deployment basics, and record what to improve on your next project.

You produce: a verified release and a one-page personal AI-development playbook.

Use the two optional clinics to narrow a difficult idea, review a plan, correct an agent, debug your project, or compare approaches with the group.

Your instructor

Sean Talbot has built full-stack web applications professionally since 2008 and worked with PHP since 2004 — maintaining legacy systems, building new platforms, teaching Laravel, and helping run developer education in Louisville. Today he uses AI coding agents daily to develop and maintain client applications.

He teaches the process he uses on those projects, including how to spot mistakes and recover when an agent gets stuck.

In 2019 he designed and taught Theta Labs' in-person Full-Stack Web Bootcamp, teaching frontend developers to build applications with PHP, Laravel & Vue.js.

About the first cohort

This is the first run of Talbot Tech's first course. You'll take part live, and the recordings will become the edited course. Here's what to expect:

Available now: enrollment. Reserve one of 20 seats by July 31st — $99 by card, confirmed instantly, refundable per the refund policy.
With onboarding: calendar invites for all five sessions (evenings, 7:00 pm ET), your project intake and scope check, discussion-space access, and setup instructions.
Live during the cohort: all three workshops and both optional clinics. Recordings are posted after each session.
After the cohort: the recordings, participant questions, and troubleshooting examples become the edited founding edition. Every founding participant keeps lifetime access.
May change: parts of the program will be adjusted based on participant questions and feedback.

What's required of you

Bring a small, realistically scoped idea, feature, or problem. Sean scope-checks every project before the cohort begins.
Be comfortable using a computer and learning technical concepts. No professional development experience is required.
Be willing to inspect code, troubleshoot, and think critically. This is not a no-code course.
Attend the live workshops (or watch the recordings promptly) and spend time on your project between sessions. Plan on 8–10 hours per week, including the live sessions.

Frequently asked questions

I've never written code. Can I do this?

No professional experience is required. You should be comfortable using a computer and learning new tools. You'll need to look at code, troubleshoot, and learn technical concepts during the course.

I'm an experienced developer. Is this too basic?

The course focuses on planning tasks, directing agents, reviewing changes, and releasing software. If you already write code but get inconsistent results from coding agents, those are the skills we'll practice.

Will I become a professional software engineer in two weeks?

No. You'll learn a process for building software with an AI agent and use it to release a first version of a small project. Becoming a professional engineer takes more training and experience.

What if I can't attend a live session?

Every session is recorded and posted afterward, with transcripts. Attend live when you can for feedback and questions, and catch up with the recording if you miss a session.

What AI tools do I need?

You'll need access to an AI coding agent. Tool recommendations and setup instructions arrive with onboarding. The course teaches a process you can use with different agents.

What's the refund policy?

Full refund any time before the cohort starts August 3rd — and through August 5th, even after you've seen the first workshop. Details on the refund policy page.

Why only 20 people?

Sean reviews every participant's project scope and gives direct feedback on submitted work. The group is limited to 20 so he has time to do that during the two weeks.
